When PlaceMakers set out to make life even easier for its customers, e-invoicing turned out to be one of the simplest wins going. We spoke with Naomi Kininmont, Digital Product Manager at PlaceMakers, about why they added it, how fast it came together, and what customers have made of it since.
Spotting the opportunity
PlaceMakers already supported MYOB and Xero integration for customer invoices. But not every customer runs those systems, and PlaceMakers saw the gap as a chance to make things easier, not a problem to solve. With Dataprint already an established e-invoicing partner, adding it as a third option was, in Naomi’s words, “a quick, straightforward, logical step to provide another form of integration to customers.”
It’s a small addition with a clear purpose. “The people doing the accounts, especially for smaller builders, are often the ones handling admin as well,” Naomi says. “If we can free up their time, they’re happier.” Fewer manual invoice entries also means fewer chances for errors, so customers get cleaner books with less effort.
Live within weeks
The rollout moved fast. PlaceMakers designed the customer-facing flow, sitting alongside their existing MYOB and Xero options in their online invoicing portal: customers enter their company name and NZBN number, switch on e-invoicing, and they’re connected. Dataprint tested the flow with a group of established e-invoicing customers, then took it live.
Asked what she’d tell another business weighing up e-invoicing with Dataprint, Naomi didn’t hesitate:
Customers are finding it themselves
Word has spread organically, with customers switching on e-invoicing without any formal promotion, and none switching back off. For Naomi, that’s the clearest sign the option is genuinely useful. “No news is good news,” she says.
Scaling up from here
With that early pull already showing, PlaceMakers and Dataprint are now working on ways to help even more customers discover e-invoicing, starting with a subtle prompt on statement and invoice emails. Growing integration numbers is a clear priority for Naomi’s team going into next year.
It’s a good example of what e-invoicing can be: not a heavy compliance exercise, but an easy way to give customers cleaner, simpler admin, backed by a partner who makes implementation genuinely painless.
